Test Your Limits!
written by Nathaniel Castro

Whether you're fresh out of middle school or moving on to your next year of high school, the fact remains that it can still be extremely nerve-racking. High school isn't meant to be perceived as a tiresome and draining experience; it's actually in these years of your teen life where you will uncover a significant amount of important growth. It is important to test your limits in high school—academically, mentally, and personally—so that you can discover your potential and prepare for the future.

For starters, I would like to highlight the importance of your grades, habits, and focus, and how these factors act as vital instruments in the symphony of your high school career. When I first started at Blanson CTE as a Freshman, I didn't have a clue as to how much the focus and habit of acquiring a good grade average actually mattered. I do believe it was not stressed enough–the idea of what you do now affecting the future. But I hope to provide clear insight into what I have learned! For you young ones, please make the most of these moments, harness your potential, put in the time and effort to ensure yourself a good future, and keep your wits.

Break it down!

Diving deeper into habits, you can develop study strategies that actually save you time and stress. For instance, breaking down assignments into smaller portions can help prevent procrastination, as well as creating a consistent study schedule, which can make overwhelming tasks way more digestible. When it comes to challenges, don’t be afraid to take on advanced courses such as AP classes or OnRamps programs. These advanced courses will not only prepare you for college-level work but also teach you necessary, valuable skills in time management and resilience. Still, it is important to move forward at your own pace; growth is steady and will accumulate over time, not all at once.

Of course, we will find ourselves momentarily hazed in the fog of rough patches; whether it's a matter that revolves around grades, losing motivation, or dealing with personal challenges, we will all face our own set of struggles and setbacks. However, the key is to remember that your struggles do not define you; each one plays a stepping stone. Growth is not a linear path. What matters is that you get back up, ask for help when you need it, and show yourself grace in the process. Please take care of your mental and physical health, because without them, no grade or achievement will ever feel worth it.

High school is a journey filled with obstacles, but each of those challenges also creates an opportunity to grow. By valuing the present, building strong habits, and supporting each other through the rough patches, we can all discover our full potential. So, test your limits, and remember to care for yourself along the way.
