Phantoms Of Water
written by Jason Borrego

Drip, Drip, Drip…
I lay in my room listening to the sound,
Eyes wide open, yet still bed bound.
Coming from outside my room,
Just across the hall, the sound continues to loom.
I eventually get up and enter the halls,
Listening for what lies beneath the walls.
Drip, Drip, Drip…
Some nights, the sound is quiet;
Others, loud like a riot.
Sometimes, I can hear it during the day,
And I’m unable to keep it at bay.
And tonight,
It is anything but light.
Drip, Drip, Drip…
I notice that there are other things
that send these louder pings.
When days are particularly rough,
And I feel I’ve had enough,
They keep me up at night.
It never feels right.
Drip, Drip, Drip…
I roam the halls, eager for a source,
and begin searching on-course.
I’ve done this before,
opening every door,
checking every space,
Only to find nothing out of place.
Maybe tonight is unique,
Maybe I’ll finally find the leak.
So I search…
And search…and search…
But once again, my hopeful elation,
only turns to frustration.
All I can hear is that ringing
as it becomes louder in my mind, clinging.
Drip, Drip Drip…
